Privacy policy

NeedAGuy connects people in New York City with local service providers. This page explains what information we collect, why, and what you can do about it. It is written in plain language on purpose.
In this policy, "we" and "us" mean NeedAGuy, New York, NY. You can reach us any time at info@needaconnect.com.
What we collect
We only collect information you type into a form. There is no account system, and we do not buy data about you from anyone.
If you join the early access list
- Your name and email address
- The service you're interested in
- Anything you write in the details box
If you request a service or product we don't list
- Your name (optional) and email address
- What you're looking for, whether it's a service or product, and how soon you need it
- Which part of the site you were browsing when you asked
If you apply to provide services
This one is more detailed, because we verify credentials before anyone represents NeedAGuy:
- Your name, business name, email address, and phone number
- Your trade, the services you offer, and years of experience
- Licence or certification type, number, issuing authority, and expiry date
- Liability insurance carrier, policy number, and bonding status
- Availability and whether you have a vehicle
- Two work references, including their contact details
- Your website, portfolio, or social profiles, if you share them
- A record of the consents you gave
We do not ask for your Social Security number, date of birth, bank details, or a copy of your ID through this website. If a background check requires that information, it will be collected separately and directly by the screening company, under its own disclosures — not through a form here.
Collected automatically
- Your colour theme preference. If you pin the site to morning, day, or night, that choice is saved in your own browser using local storage. It never leaves your device and we cannot see it.
- Standard server logs. Our host records IP addresses and basic request data as part of running the site securely.

We do not sell your information. We do not share it with advertisers. We do not send marketing email to people who only submitted a request or an application — if you asked a question, you get an answer, not a newsletter.
Who else can see it
Only the companies that help us operate, and only as far as needed:
- Netlify hosts this website and stores form submissions. Everything you submit is held on Netlify's servers.
- Our email provider receives a copy of submissions as a notification.
- Licensing authorities. When we verify a provider, we look up licence numbers in public databases run by agencies such as the NYC Department of Buildings, the NYC Department of Consumer and Worker Protection, and the New York State Department of State. These are public lookups.
- Insurance carriers. We may contact a carrier to confirm a policy is active.
- A background screening company, if and when we run checks on providers. You will be told who it is and asked to authorise it separately before anything runs.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect someone's safety.
How long we keep it
- Early access signups — until you ask to be removed, or until we shut the list down.
- Requests — up to two years, so we can spot repeated demand for the same thing.
- Applications that are approved — for as long as you provide services with us, plus seven years afterwards for insurance and tax reasons.
- Applications that are declined or withdrawn — one year, then deleted.
- Server logs — as long as our host retains them, typically 30 days.
Your choices
Whoever and wherever you are, you can ask us to:
- Send you a copy of what we hold about you
- Correct anything that's wrong
- Delete your information
- Stop emailing you
Email info@needaconnect.com and we will respond within 30 days. We won't make you jump through hoops, and we won't treat you differently for asking.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights — for example under the California Consumer Privacy Act, or the GDPR if you are in the UK or European Economic Area. We apply the rights listed above to everyone regardless of location, which covers the substance of both.
Security
The site is served over HTTPS and form submissions are encrypted in transit and stored by Netlify with access limited to us. Forms use spam filtering to cut down on automated abuse.
That said, no website is perfectly secure. Please don't send us sensitive documents, identification, or payment details through a contact form. If we need something like that, we'll tell you a safer way to send it.
Children
This site is not intended for anyone under 18, and we don't knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has submitted something, email us and we'll delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy we'll update the date at the top. If the change is significant and we have your email, we'll tell you directly.
